Fast tooling for large dies
Customer: Audi AG, Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm (Germany) and Györ (Hungary)
Due to an increasing number of models and vehicle variations, a larger number of forming tools is required in the automotive industry for increasingly smaller batch sizes. Therefore, modern facilities for economical testing and tooling play an important part in die manufacturing for sheet metal forming. To minimize production time and costs as well as to ensure the availability of the production plant, Audi uses tryout presses from Dieffenbacher.
That’s how we helped Audi get ahead
Eight hydraulic tryout presses for the incorporation of large dies were supplied by Dieffenbacher to Audi AG between 2003 and 2009. With press forces between 16,000 kN and 25,000 kN, the presses are used in plants in Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm (Germany) and Györ (Hungary).
In addition to a ram cushion with 2000 kN, the presses are equipped with multipoint table cushions with a maximum of 6000 kN. Up to eight cylinders can be individually set and work off the predefined force profile during displacement. Shock absorbers enable cutting tools to be incorporated gently.
Driving tables with a clamping surface of 5 x 2.5 m enable even large and heavy molds to be changed quickly. With the motorized spindle adjustment, the system can be easily set to the appropriate tool height. An active parallel holding system of the ram completes the package. With a separate control of the two main cylinders, the press can be closed in parallel, resulting in an optimum spotting pattern.
